Billet inspection

BILLETCHEK billet inspection
equipment (left) and paint marker (right) |
 |
Inspection: Each of the four billet
corners is inspected for defects |
 |
Billet characteristics: All steel
grades; rolled and cast square billets; 80–130mm square
(3–5") |
 |
Coil holder: Supports four probes that
move with the billet corners |
 |
Paint marking: Defects are marked
using a special four-corner paint
marker | |
 |
Billet corners Four pneumatically
suspended probes inspect the billet corners. An eddy current
inspection system for the billet faces is currently being
developed. | |
The detection of cracks located on the corners of square
billets requires special attention due to the corner radius and the
characteristics of the billets. PRUFTECHNIK has designed special
corner probes that are particularly sensitive to transverse cracks.
They are pneumatically suspended in the BILLETCHEK
coil holder and are able to move with fluctuation in the billet
position or with billet twist. Identified defects are marked with a
paint marker with four spray guns, one for each corner, which is
located behind the BILLETCHEK.
| |
| The BILLETCHEK system is connected to the powerful EDDYCHEK® 4eddy
current inspection system. EDDYCHEK 4 displays test results on a
color screen and documents them comprehensively for future
reference. It also provides a link to a host computer for remote
data storage or for the integration of the eddy current
inspection into a central control system. |
