Butt weld detection: The position of butt welds in the production line is monitored in order to control in-line units
Eddy current probe: Several eddy current probes are positioned in strategic places to locate butt welds
New superior method: Eddy current testing eliminates the need for light barriers and holes punched through butt welds for position detection of the welds
Reference sites: At this time, PRUFTECHNIK equipment reliably and effectively detects butt welds in production plants in Austria, Malaysia and Taiwan.
Production managers in hot dip galvanizing lines constantly struggle with locating the positions of the butt welds to control in-line units such as pinch rollers, stripping jets and shears and to avoid damage to the roller surfaces. Traditional methods using punched holes in butt welds in combination with light barriers are frought with problems such as malfunctioning hole punchers and zinc dripping through the holes. PRUFTECHNIK offers a new technology for identifying butt welds reliably and without fuss. Eddy current probes are positioned in strategic places along the production line to detect butt welds. They operate non-contact and can be up to over 10mm (½") away from the strip. The EDDYSENSOR testing equipment processes the signals from the probes and passes the position of the butt weld on to a central PLC that controls the units in the line. PRUFTECHNIK's innovative testing system is installed in production plants in Austria, Malaysia and Taiwan where it has proven to be far superior to detection methods that were in use up to then.
